# SEO is no longer enough: now GEO counts too

By [Bjarne Fomferra](https://nucez.com/en/about) · 05.08.2026

These days it's no longer just about a modern, fast website. There's a lot more behind it. [SEO](https://nucez.com/en/blog/seo-verstaendlich) alone isn't enough anymore either. A page that ranks well on Google doesn't mean it's also [seen by an AI](https://nucez.com/en/blog/wie-ki-suche-funktioniert).

The trend is moving more and more toward people asking an AI, for example, who the nearest good roofer in the area is. If a website isn't built for that, it won't even get listed there.

## [Try it yourself](https://nucez.com/en/blog/seo-verstaendlich)

If you're a business owner reading this blog, feel free to try it yourself. Ask a chat AI (ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok or similar) about your industry. If you don't show up there, now is the right time to get in touch with me.

## [What matters now](https://nucez.com/en/blog/seo-verstaendlich)

With the current AI wave, websites also have to be made readable for these systems. This is exactly where [GEO](https://nucez.com/en/blog/was-ist-geo) comes in, Generative Engine Optimization. Technically it's doable, but older platforms simply don't account for it.

What you need to do: provide an AI with a clear description of the website. There's a standardized format and a fixed path for this that an AI reads on its own.

This file is called [`llms.txt`](https://nucez.com/en/blog/was-ist-llms-txt) and sits directly in the root directory, so at `/llms.txt`. It's a plain text file that sums up in clear language what the site is about: who's behind it, which services there are, and where the important content is. You can think of it like a sitemap, just not for search engines, but for language models. By the way, this site has one too, at [nucez.com/llms.txt](https://nucez.com/llms.txt).

An AI has no interest in analyzing the entire website, so it looks specifically for this description.

If you want to know whether your website is visible to AI, take a look at my [SEO and GEO analysis](https://nucez.com/en/themen/ki-sichtbarkeit). I check both and tell you concretely what to tackle first. For a first impression in seconds, try the free [AI check](https://nucez.com/en/ki-check).

In short

Ranking well on Google doesn't mean being seen by AI. Why GEO decides whether ChatGPT and co. know you.
