# Structured data: How to tell Google and AI what's on your page

By [Bjarne Fomferra](https://nucez.com/en/about) · 05.08.2026

A person looking at your page sees right away: That's a price, that's a date, that's the company name. A machine at first sees only text. Structured data is the way to tell it exactly that: This is a company, that's an article, that's a review.

## [How does it work?](https://nucez.com/en/blog/was-ist-geo)

In the background there's a small, invisible block of code on the page, usually in JSON-LD format. It uses a shared vocabulary called Schema.org that search engines and AI understand. The visitor sees none of it, but afterwards the machine knows exactly what it's about.

An example: Instead of Google having to guess whether "Nucez Software" is a company, a product or a typo, the structured data says it clearly: This is an organization, here's the address, here's how to get in touch.

## [What does it get you?](https://nucez.com/en/blog/was-ist-geo)

- **Better display in search.** Star ratings, event dates or Q&A blocks right in the search result come from structured data.
- **Clarity for AI.** If you state in machine-readable form who you are and what you offer, you make it easy for an AI to classify you correctly and cite you.
- **Fewer misunderstandings.** The machine doesn't guess, it reads.

## [Typical markup](https://nucez.com/en/blog/was-ist-geo)

- Organization or local business: name, address, contact.
- Articles and blog posts: title, date, author.
- Services and products.
- Breadcrumb navigation, so the structure of the site is clear.

This website uses exactly this kind of markup, for the company, the products, the blog posts and the individual services.

## [An honest word](https://nucez.com/en/blog/was-ist-geo)

Structured data isn't a magic trick that shoots you to the top. It's a foundation. And one rule always applies: Only mark up what's actually on the page. If you mark up things that don't exist, you'll get caught.

Why this is becoming especially important for AI is covered in [What is GEO?](https://nucez.com/en/blog/was-ist-geo) and in the overview [SEO is no longer enough: Now GEO counts too](https://nucez.com/en/blog/seo-reicht-nicht-mehr). I can implement it directly with you through my [SEO and GEO analysis](https://nucez.com/en/themen/ki-sichtbarkeit).
